The ideal lightbox for reed work is an old Microfiche Reader. These were
made obsolete with the advent of the PC. Auto dealers used to use them for
reading Automobile Workshop Manuals and Parts Catalogues. You can just lay
the reedplate on the glass sheet where the microfiche used to go and the
magnified image of the reedplate will be projected up onto the screen of
the reader.
Nowadays car manufacturers present their manuals and parts catalogues on CD,
so with a bit of luck your local dealer may have a discarded microfiche
reader or two gathering dust in his back store. It should be possible to buy
one for small change. I did.
