Try to get your student to scrunch up their nose and draw their nostrils in to mimic the effect of a heavy cold and breathe in and out only through the mouth, then maintain this posture whilst playing the harp. This extreme method will help the student to identify the mechanism in play and then hopefully they can then gradually ease off and locate the required closure in a more natural and relaxed form.
