Re: [Harp-L] the unaware honoree
Well, that's one way to do it :)
Robert Bonfiglio won SPAH's biggest award, the Bernie Bray Harmonica Player of the Year Award, and was also not there to collect it. We don't notify honorees in advance, so sometimes they're not around (besides, they may be working or unavailable for other reasons). Robert actually found out on Facebook, which was a little embarrassing, but with all the work and activity and travel home afterwards, it didn't get done before word got out (actually, it was out on Facebook already during the banquet that included the awards ceremony, as were various photos).
This goes on the long list of things to improve for next year.

Thought I'd email Joe Leone and congratulate him on his SPAH award. He
appears to have no clue. Sorry if I let the cat out of the bag.
Personally, I believe the award should be held hostage and Joe forced to
attend next year's convention in San Antonio in order to pick it up. That
way, we all win.
