You take a Richter tuned 10 hole diatonic (I used a Marine Band), file the 5th DRAW reed UP one semi tone. (Assuming a key of C model, that will take the #5 UP to F#). But with ANY key, you are taking the #5 draw UP ONE sharp. I did a C, Db, and a D. And played them crossed harp. (2nd position).
In 59 after coming back home from Paris, I was invited to join a doo-wop group. I wasn't able to do what I wanted with the Richter tuning, and was using 2 (or more) harps for some tunes. I didn't over blow at the time. Just draw bending. The new tuning opened up a PLETHORA of tunes. I was doing Londonderry Aire with only one harp while others were using two.
That was in Sept. 59. In Nov I also filed the #9 DRAW UP one semi tone on one of the harps. In Jan 60, I added a windsaver to the #5 draw so that I could BLOW the #5 DOwN when needed. But a country tuned is just the #5 draw raised one semi tone (or one sharp). I buy a standard Richter and do it myself. I carry 13 Richters and 5 altered. I am mostly a chromatic player.
