Hi Scott,
I don't have a case like you describe as yet, but I'm interested in 
developing one if you'd like to help.  It sounds like you think the 
foam-insert type of case wastes a lot of space.  Right?
If anyone else is interested then let me know.
BTW, the Hetrick site is still online - I've just messaged them to see 
if they are still operating.
