[Harp-L] October 6, 1992
2 days from now harp-l will be 22 years old. I am aware of at least one
person who posted in that first month who is still subscribed to harp-l.
That's kind of an amazing persistence. As of this moment we 2389
subscribers, down from the 2400 of about a month ago. We wax and wane.
It was sad for me to note the several original members who are no longer
with us. Jack Ely for instance. I'm relatively late to the game having
arrived in mid 1994. There were no browsers in 1992, Mosaic was nascent
but not quite on the scene. LYNX was pretty much it. Topical e-mail
lists are a relatively late development. Delphi forums date to 1083, bbs
groups are even older and older still would be usenet. Modern iterations
of the forum format have roots that reach back much earlier than harp-l's
rather late arrival date of 1992. Out of curiosity I was trying to figure
out if there are any current lists older than harp-l. Blues-l came to
mind but maybe not? They're an actual listserv. We're not but we used to
be. Hence the name harp-l. harp-l-listowner
