Re: [Harp-L] RE: two diatonic harps whole set apart

Comparing the Tombo S-50 slideless chromatic to double diatonics is sort of like comparing apples and, er, pears.

When you're talking about diatonics, one problem is that the first octave is missing the fourth and seventh degrees (e.g., F and A on a C-harp).

If you couple the C harp with a Bb harp, you get F and A as Draw 2 and Draw 3 on the Bb harp, but to get to them you have to remove one harp from your mouth and replace it with the other, which can occasion a pause in sound between one note and the next while you switch harps.

The Tombo S-50 is a fully chromatic instrument that already has a full C major scale on the C row, so you don't need to move anywhere except sideways to play a C scale. Also, though, the C row and C# row are mounted in the same body, one above the other, so you don't need to replace one harp with another in your mouth. Instead you just rock the front of the harp down up up to slide from one row to the other.

However, if your goal is to play a diatonic harp with the chords, bends, and timbre of a diatonic, you won't get those on the S-50.

I have a Tombo Chromatic S-50, which is a slideless chromatic. (Move your
face instead)

It is a C and C# harp stacked, and is 1/2 step apart, rather than whole
step. Would this be about the same idea?
