I use the VC that they offer aal the time and it works perfect for me. 
I use on a vintage Shure CM element and a Astatic MC151 crystal mic.. no problems. 
For me it is the only VC that doesn't change my sound when I turn it down a little.

I played their crystal mic once and it was okay. Nothing special... the output was medium. But on an amp that feedbacks too quick it might be a good choice.
