In my mind all that matters is what colors/statements that you add to the
music. What ever tuning does the job that you want is way cool. To dis
Richter or make it out to be inferior in some way is sad. Heart & Soul is
much more important than note layout. Richter has definitely proven that
the harmonica is a magical instrument the lets almost anyone connect their
heart & soul to making music. It may be lousy music for many but it is
indeed musical sounds that come from just breathing. It has been the way
that the masters started since the beginning. My guess is that many of our
great chromatic players started on a "toy" This life-long chip on some
shoulders that the harp is thought of as a toy and is not respected enough
is sad. Just play and make the music matter. The instrument/tuning is
really secondary in the big scheme of things.
