Re: [Harp-L] Harp with bluegrass

No one has yet mentioned Canadian harp virtuoso Mike Stevens's work with various bluegrass bands on this thread yet, and that's too bad. Stevens is a monster in a lot of different styles, bluegrass among them. He's authored books on the art of playing bluegrass harp, he's performed on a number of occasions at the Grand Ole Oprey, and he's recorded with a number of different bluegrass bands.

I played in a blues jam session at SPAH 1998; others in attendance at that session included Rob Paparozzi and Madcat Ruth. Stevens played in that session, and both Paparozzi and Ruth commented to me afterward about how fresh and powerful his playing was. I recall it as one of the most thrilling things I ever heard from any harmonica player.

Stevens's work isn't mentioned much on this list, but his bluegrass playing has few if any peers.
