Re: [Harp-L] Vernacular of Harmonica

Major is using his own terminology, which is not shared by anyone else (although Jon Gindick has also used the term slant harp for third position).

Straight harp for first position and cross harp for second position are the only position names that are universally understood, and these are being overtaken by simply using the numbered positions organized around the circle of fifths. This numbered position system is logically consistent and has become the preferred method for describing all positions, although straight harp and cross harp remain accepted and widely used.

The reference to "Double-crossed, Slant Harp or Draw Harp" for the third position is found in the published by Mel Bay "C Harmonica Book" (author James Major).
