I recall reading or hearing an old history quote that went (rough quote
from memory) "the Negroes have happy songs that they call Blues, and sad
songs of suffering they call Jubilees."
I always thought it was interesting that "Blues" were happy songs, and
"Jubilees" were the sad spirituals. Reverse of what one might think. I
can't remember the source of the quote, though...
