this conversation made me think about the Beatles song "Hey Jude". There is
that line "take a sad song and make it better". The blues evolved from a
place that was a "very sad song of life". These amazing human beings took
that sad song and made it better. They found a way to celebrate life and
share their struggles through music. Their life was complicated enough. The
art form/structure of the blues is "simple" for a reason. Everyone "get's
it" after a few good doses. Even the "unmusical" can feel the changes. That
is the magic. Everyone can groove to the sounds and the musicians have a
wide open canvas to paint their pictures.
