- Thread-topic: Cleaning my harmonicas
I use an ultrasonic "jewelry" cleaner, with hot water and a little IMS-2 sanitizing solution, then rinse them in hot water and tap/blow dry. The IMS-2 (Roman numeral 2 actually) is a sanitizer used in the food service industry to clean ice makers and beverage dispensing equipment. It is non-toxic and leaves no aftertaste or residue like alcohol can.
Depending on use, I occasionaly take my harps apart and clean the reed plates with Brasso - nothing works better on brass - then clean all the parts in the ultrasonic filled with the hot IMS-2 solution, pat dry, and re-assemble.
Whatever chemicals or solution you prefer, the ultrasonic is the way to go. It cleans well without the risk of damage.
Keep Harpin'!
