Just finished the excellent new biography on Johnny Cash by Robert
Hillburn and was surprised to learn that producer Rick Rubin apparently
used Lester Butler and the Red Devils blues band on some tracks Johnny Cash
had cut for Rick's American Recordings label. Apparently the sides made it
to a 5 cd box set titled "Unearthed."
Was wondering how much of Lester Butler's harpwork found its way onto
the recordings. Anybody heard these sides? Butler was a fine, tasteful
blues harpist. But Cash was not a blues artist. I checked YouTube but
couldn't find anything, except for a Red Devils/Mick Jagger collaboration.
Just curious.
