If you have a top notch band with a clear hit, and vocals to die for, rent
a studio. What you need, more than equipment, is professionals who know
what they're doing
If you record a harmonica through a green bullet mic, you have a very
limited frequency range, which is then limited by running the signal
through tube amp. A pair of AKG closed back headphones can reproduce that
easily.
Headphones aren't good if you want to really mix bass heavy music but for a
cheap basement studio, they're great. I use them all the time.
Headphones are often better than cheap monitor speakers, especially if you
haven't done any room treatment.
