Trebor Jay Tichenor (1940-Feb.22,2014) has played his last rag. The performer and authority on Scott Joplin and the ragtime era (circa 1890+) collected and published several collections of ragtime piano tunes and composed his own. His daughter Virginia continues the ragtime performance tradition.
Check out some of his YouTubes and see if you don't recognize riffs and hooks that later turned up in blues. The old timers said all early jazz and blues -- as well as ragtime -- (which all started about the same time) was called ragtime.
