Larry was the first International harmonica superstar.

He was born in Baltimore, USA, in 1914 and made his first commercial
recording aged 16. He was the first International superstar harmonica
player and he lived a very colourful life which embraced music of all
styles, literature, writing and broadcasting. He inspired classical
composers to write for the harmonica.

He prepared the way for the chromatic harmonica players, like John
Sebastian, Tommy Reilly, Ronald Chesney, and Albert Raisner who followed
where Larry had led. By the 1950s there were many chances to hear the
chromatic played on the radio and records in the UK.

He was President of the NHL from 1989 and attended some of our festivals.
His last visit was in Bournemouth in 2000 when he appeared in a wheelchair.
He died the following year.
