Re: [Harp-L] A-432

 Hi Robert (and Trip):

Interesting topic and one that came up with a very good fiddle player friend who helped me run a Traditional Irish session in San Francisco. At one point he became obsessed with the tuning, the science behind it, the "new agey" ness, German conspiracy theories, and much that is out there on the internet. So much so that he would keep one fiddle and an extra guitar tuned to 432 on hand when it was a slow night. It became a bit unwieldy to ask all the other session players to re tune, and I took a pass on re tuning my harmonicas. But, he did make great recording of tunes all played on guitar and violin with this tuning and it does sound very resonant and pleasing.

If you want more "TMI" about this subject, here are a few links to the science, the new age, healing aspects, and some sound demos.

In the interests of keeping this back "on topic" with things harmonica. maybe you would want to tune harmonicas a couple cent's sharp (A=434) to be about right with a string band all playing tuned to A= 432? And then calculate the equivalent relative JI deviations in cents referenced to A=432 for the sweet chords. (And then play it really loud through a mic/ amp and maybe the sympathtic resonances and difference tones would bring about peace and harmony for all mankind :)

Happy holidays to all.

My questions are:

   1. why do they want to tune down?
   2. why do you want to accommodate with a special set of harps?ïïï
