Was sitting through the 2 1/2 hour Bruce Springsteen tribute concert on
PBS last night when Charlie Musselwhite popped up with Ben Harper and
Natalie Maines to do a tune. Caught me by surprise but it turned out there
was a connection. Bruce took a moment in his long thank you speech to
acknowledge Charlie, mentioning that as a young man he had opened a show
for the blues harpist. As I recall, the only two people playing harmonica
during the tribute were Mr. Musselwhite and Bruce.
It's always great to see Charlie getting national exposure. He's been
to the SPAH conventions numerous times; sometimes on his own dime, just to
hang out. I really find that commendable.
