(Harp Explorer)->"Does the throat not contain any of the air column used for bends?"
Air yes but variability no; the air in the throat and lungs are not directionally controllable for purposes of bending. The air in the throat and lungs goes in and out with exactly the same pattern for bent or unbent notes; there might be some extra resonance within the throat area but that air flow is directionally UNcontrollable at the lungs and throat; the resonant column of air is directionally controllable just back to the soft-palate.
The _control_ of the resonant column of air which effects whether the note becomes bent is entirely within the oral cavity.
