Re: [Harp-L] re: big name SPAH members...

freebies for professionals is best understood by those who've worked in the industry a while and understand the unwritten rules regarding how this particular system works.

Don't know if SPAH has an interest or the ability to venture into this particular area....it's not about asking members for input, forming another committee, voting on it, delegating responsibility and all that other corporate jazz.

It's a whole different animal and sometimes takes thinking totally outside of a box.

However, if SPAH figures out how to attract these types of individuals, experience has shown that they, in turn, will attract other similar individuals interested in what can only be described as a "cool hang" and bring an exciting world class vibe to the convention.

Hello Phyllis. I understand and appreciate your thoughts on scholarships.
SPAH now has a youth scholarship program that was started a few years ago
with some donated seed money. "Freebees" to the professionals in my opinion
would be more of a marketing strategy to grow interest and generate funds
for scholarships and other things as you suggest. Free memberships cost
nothing to the organization. I also believe that the well-to-do pro's will
be generous enough to make up for the struggling pro's who don't have the
green to spare. A long membership list littered with "name brand stars" is
an amazing asset for the mission of advancing and preserving.
