[Harp-L] worth mentioning/ Michael Peloquin
Every Year I put on a fairly large car show music program in Half Moon Bay California.
This year /yesterday I hired Michael Peloquin's band, East Bay Mudd.
It took me a few year to get him on the big stage…but wow was he worth it.
In this band he does not play much harmonica….he is the Sax player…in an Extraordinary Horn Based Band….
Think Tower of Power…etc…etc…..His harp work was excellent…a little Stevie Wonder licks in the mix too.
I could not help but wonder if he could have played the parts he played ….on his harmonica instead of his Sax.
The band was sensational and he stood between a solid baritone sax player and world famous Tom Poole on trumpet….
Vocals …all solid…when you play the classic horn based soul and R & B….you need to get it right…people notice…
They not only got it right …they sounded as good as the albums…we all remember…and sometimes sounded even better.
The Trombone is the anchor and it leaves space for a good high end harmonica sound.
I would pay to hang out with someone like Michael and learn the subtle art of a tight Horn section …( on harp…) could it be done?
My cousin Ross Walters has the gift as well and plays sax / harp/ chrom. harp/ and keys.
Bravo Michael for blowing my mind yesterday…now let's see you do it all on the harmonica….that would be amazing…
I will check out your web site for more tips…
by the way …we raised over $80,000 for the seniors in our community ….thanks for helping us out.
Grant Walters…
Humbled... but willing to learn…
here is Micheal's link if you want to hear more…check out his work at the Jazz Hamonica summit….I was there…and they had a harmonica band segment...
