I got to see Charlie a couple years ago when he was playing in Oxford (MS,
not England). He uses Seydel 1847's into a custom bullet mic into a Sonny
Jr. No effects.
I got to talk to him for awhile before the show, and when I questioned him
about his setup, it was obvious that I knew more about the technical specs
of his gear than he did... he was plainly NOT a gearhead and he wasn't
trying to promote anything. Particularly regarding the harmonicas, he just
really liked the way the Seydels played. I finally bought one last year,
and I have to say... I'd have a case full of 1847's if I could afford them.
One funny thing about that show... it was a small venue (a radio show), and
the sound guy wanted Charlie to turn his amp down. Charlie was polite in
his response, but he was not happy with that request! I watched him go over
and turn down the volume knob maybe one millimeter! Heh-heh.
