Slideman Slim said something along the lines of "If it sounds like the
metronome is slowing down or speeding up, its likely because YOU are
slowing down or speeding up." Let me add a corollary to that: "If it
sounds like the metronome is swinging, it's likely because YOU are
swinging!"
I never knew it was possible for a metronome to swing until I heard Carol
Kaye demonstrate this repeatedly at lessons.. By playing "around" the
beat, she could almost magically make it seem like the metronome itself
was swinging!
