I don't play guitar well enough to play along w/ other musicians,
generally. (But I can pull off a few tunes on my own, so THEY have to
accompany ME. This occurs on rare occasions; and if there's an audience
it really helps if they've been drinking.) 

However, I keep a kazoo and one of those little shaker eggs in my harp
case. Both have come  in handy.
