Brendan,
Thank you so much for the comments you and Winslow made. I had thought that it most likely wouldn't be an easy answer, but goes to show how much more is needed to be learned. Also, playing is sometimes more than 50% a mental thing. Thanks also for the ideas on scale tunings. Unfortunately, because of disability don't think I can handle the chromatic, although maybe there is a way. Going to change my name to the 50-year old novice. Love the advice from this board; always excellent lessons.
thanks again, john

Impressive analysis, Winslow! Whew, that was nearly 20 years ago, let me
think$B!D(B I was using half-valved Hohner 270s chroms then, with my own
home-made Lexan combs (Lexan is a polycarbonate, the stuff used as $B!F(Bbullet
proof glass$B!G(B). That's why it looks clear, but not a Hering.
The tuning would be PowerChromatic, or a version of it:
http://www.brendan-power.com/harmonicas.php#harps4
It puts a C chrom into G essentially, with 3 blow as your home note. I
normally played minor keys in 5th position (Em on a G chrom, which used to
be a C chrom, if you$B!G(Bre still following me$B!D(B).
Since this is in Gm, the chrom was likely a Bb (which used to be an Eb$B!D(B)
Here is the scale:
1 2 3 4 5$B!D(B.. (Repeating)
EbF GA BbC CD EbF$B!D(B.
It might have been this variation:
1 2 3 4 5$B!D(B.. (Repeating)
EbF GA BbC BbD EbF$B!D(B.
All slider notes rise a semitone. The half-valving gives diatonic-type
interactive reed bending on all the draw notes, which is why it sounds
closer to a 10 hole harp.
Hope that helps,
Brendan Power

Re. my reply: I guess I should call it 4th Position related to the
PowerChromatic Tuning (not 5th, as stated - that was relating the position
to hole 1 blow).

On thegearpage.net, a forum member claiming to be a DT rep posted the
following regarding an exchange about the XP on the 23rd:
"I see you guys have seen the replacements for the *RP70* and *RP90*: The
new Element and Element XP, here's what is new:
New pedal oriented interface
New switches
New presets
New industrial design
New dedicated headphone output
New DC power supply
These improvements are a direct result of polling of our entry-level users,
we hope we addressed their needs at a very attractive price.
We are re-building our RP line from the foundation up, these are just the
first to be released."

Hello, L'ers!
I'm posting because I am getting increasingly excited about a band new
to me, "Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three."
I'm a sucker for old-timey music, especially when a fine harp player is
in the mix. Last time I went nuts over a new to me old-timey sound was
after discovering The WIYOS with Michael Farkas. Still ga-ga over them,
but Pokey brings an entirely new and unique sound to my ears.
The really cool thing, and the reason I am writing about this on Harp-L,
is because the South City Three includes a terrific harmonica player
with a unique style name of Ryan Koenig who, like Farkas, is also a
washboard Master. Koenig also plays a mean snare drum when the occasion
calls for it.
I'll just testify that my son, a major metal fan who idolizes Les
Claypool and "Primus" took my advice and took his girlfriend to see
Pokey et. al. last night in Detroit. He came away reporting that it was
far and away the best concert he had ever seen. I can't wait until they
come within driving distance!
Check this Youtube video that is fairly representative of their act.
