Warren Bee suggested an opt out for a SPAH attendee list, I like his line
of thought but I suggest a modification. I despise opt out lists, I view
the practice as both unethical and irritating, being signed up for anything
without my express informed consent really, really pisses me off... It
should always be opt in.
Without having any additional info at hand, I'd be ok with an opt-in for a
SPAH attendee list. Perhaps it could be part of the registration process.
This would seem to satisfy the points that Joe Leone and others have
raised, while at the same time safeguarding SPAH and it's members from privacy
and legal concerns. Just my opinion, this isn't my area of expertise and
there may be stuff I'm unaware of. Will jot it down as an item to bring up
for discussion at the next board meeting.
I'd encourage any interested parties to continue the dialogue. Keep it
friendly, well framed opposing opinions will serve to inform the SPAH staff
of the desires and opinions of the harmonica community, and therefore
strengthen our organization.
