This is unusual behavior to say the least. If the following doesn't fix it, I recommend that you send it to the nearest Digitech repair center.
First, do a factory reset and then update the RP to the latest firmware (I think it's version 1.4) if you haven't already.
it's possible that what's happening is either 1) your power supply is going bad, or 2) the power in the places you're playing is flaky, either of which could make the chips in the 355 go a little bonkers. I think the former is more likely than the latter. You can test it by taking your RP to the nearest instrument store that stocks Digitechs, borrowing a new power supply, and playing through it for a little while. If that solves the problem, get a new power supply (about $25). Also, check the tip on your power supply cable (the end that plugs into the RP). If there's a red band at the tip, cool. If not, replace the power supply.
You could also try getting a power strip that regulates the power to the device. Those cost about $80--I really think any electric musician should have one. Flaky power causes lots of problems, not to mention occasional electrocutions.
If all else fails, send to digitech for repairs. also check with Digitech tech support at digitech.com, right away. they may have an immediate diagnosis, and they're very easy to deal with.
