One of my favorite solo harmonica performances ever was Tom at SPAH 2012 playing "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." Truly a remarkable performance that managed to combine country blues with swing-era jazz, thoroughly original with a big swinging groove.
Right up there with JellyRoll Johnson's solo performance of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" at a previous SPAH. Both on my alltime top ten list.
At the top of the list, by the way, is Charlie Leighton playing "Body and Soul" on the chromatic at a New York Top Brass meeting hosted by Rob Paparozzi and Wade Schuman at Wade's place in NYC. It was the best performance of "Body and Soul" I've ever heard. I didn't hear a tone to match it until Filip Jers did his amazing original folk song composition on diatonic harp self-accompanied on guitar to end his set at SPAH 2012.
