Short answer on practice: Just watched a Tommy Emmanuel interview and he said parents were always coming up to him after concerts asking advice on how to keep their kid interested.
Tommy said he always tells parents that while learning scales and arpeggios and chords are important but the best way to maintain interest is to find some good songs to play. Which are within ability. Working on songs that are too beyond their ability will only prove frustrating
Hope this helps.
Action plan: So changing that up: when you get bored and are finding it difficult to practice, start working on a song you always wanted to learn. Get the youtube version. or iTunes. Download the paid sheet music if you can't find it for free. Check the fake book index and get the fake book if you don't have it.
Hope this helps.
Phil
