Re: [Harp-L] Steve Baker Tuning
Hohner SBS vs. Seydel Pro 12? Well, nails and unsealed vs. screws and
sealed.
I think if you want a key like F you are stuck with a Hohner, unless you
want to pony up for a configured Pro 12.
I have a Seydel Pro 12 in D that I really love for blues in A.. a real
Mississippi Sax sound. I am not a big fan of high harp anyway.. good for
calling dogs and cutting through a band that's already too loud, or scaring
the audience, but not usually "pretty", so I tend to like harps in the range
of an Alto Sax, about D3 to Ab5.
Did you ever run out of harmonica below hole 1? Think about this, if I play
cross harp, don't I want a harp that starts on 2 draw anyway? Well, the SBS
tuning gives you that and one more. There are some nice riffs you can play
down there, that you just can't play on a standard Richter.
Seydel is my new fave brand, I've even had a couple 10 holers configured
starting on 2 draw.. (holes 2-11 of the SBS.)

Subject: [Harp-L] Steve Baker Tuning
Do i have any options for a quality Steve Baker tuned harp other than the MB
365/28 or Seydel Soloist Steel? Leaning towards the Seydel at the moment,
but open to comments and suggestions. This is just for tinkering and
experimentation. I don't expect to replace my Crossovers, 'birds, and Nobles
with SB tuned harps. Do those of you that use one use it for a lot of tunes
or just reserve it for one or two tunes in a set?
Thanks list!
