Bob Herndon was everything people are posting about him and more. Bob
played with the "Harmonica Jazz Quartet" featuring Bob on Harmonetta, Al
Fontana on 64 and Johnny Thompson on Bass. I don't recall the drummer's
name. This was the finest jazz harmonica group ever and Bob was great in
it.
Bob and I met in 1971 when I joined the Johnny Puleo Harmonica Gang in 1971.
We roomed together, became great friends, as he did with everybody, played
constantly and kept close contact through the succeeding years.
When Bob was touring on his own out my way, he always spent a few nights
with us. We shared a lot. There are some great photos of Bob, I and the
Johnny Puleo Harmonica Gang on Bob's Facebook page.
I too will miss Bob. Even though he was on self administered dialysis, he
was making plans to attend SPAH's 50th. Anniversary Convention with his wife
Kitty and called to tell me a few days before he passed. He was so excited
that he would be able to be with his Harmonica Friends again. We had some
personal words as if to say goodbye...strange..
Bob was a religious man and I am sure he has his place above as he believed.
There are two fine tributes to Bob on the internet. One on the SPAH Website
and the other on Hohner's Website.
RIP Bob
With great sadness..
Stryker
