[Harp-L] Fair Trade Music
Steve has indeed now left the room so any replies you might have been
intending to send to the harp-l list would best remain unsent. He's asked
to be left alone so let's just respect that please. As was pointed out
this topic quickly veered from on topic to off topic. I think it's a
difficult one because so many people really want to talk about the larger
meta of our society and the politics that drive most of how we decide to
pay folks etc.
It has always been my fervent hope that one day we'll be able to host a
tough topical discussion like this one without it quickly drifting away
from civil discourse. It's a pretty large group so maybe that's a reach.
It really only takes one person to create the permission for something
like this to quickly head out of bounds.
I wasn't privy to the offlist e-mails so I really can't judge nor would I
want to. On list things have been pretty tame especially if you consider
them in a harp-l historical context. Let's just say that the post
september 11, 2001 harp-l posts were pretty interesting. One of these
days we'll get around to restoring those to the archive. They were
displaced in a server crash pre my tenure. I got them back but they
languish in a poorly formatted state. I think God created the US postal
service to keep me from taking over the world. So far it's working. It's
a lovely day where I am so I'm out the door to enjoy some more of it.
