Oh no, Toots wasn't being nasty at all.  He was actually being respectful of Howards playing... He further joked about wanting to shoot Howard.  Of coused he didn't mean any harm.  I love Toots and have the highest respect for him and his talent.  I saw him in Pittsburgh some time ago and he blew me out of my seat.  He amazingly played the whole jazz concert with just one harmonica.  ONE...

I don't think Toots meant it in a bad way. It's like when a musician calls another musician a bitch or a monster - both are compliments.
