[Harp-L] Re: Chrome book

When I purchased Richard Sleigh's book,TurboCharge your Harp, a few years
ago he recommended getting the book by Dick Gardner of Harmonicat Fame,
playing with the group from 1971 to 1993. It took me most of a year to
track him down. Dick told me that there really was not a book, just pages
and pages of his collected wisdom on all things harmonica. I mean ALL
things. It is a great read and I feel honored to have that stack of pages.
Mostly geared to Chromatic, the instructions have served me well on my
diatonics.

Lots of history on the Harmonicats, maintenance, tools, hints,
"Chromaticare", mics, etc., accumulated from over 60 years experience. Dick
still is in demand for his skill in repairing and tuning both Bass and
Chromatic harmonica. Shure allowed him to take over all the repair of the
ribbon mics the Harmonicats used and he still repairs them. Through my
correspondence with Dick, after buying his material, I have gained
tremendous insight into harmonica repair. He taught me which tools to buy,
how to seal my bass combs with beeswax, and countless other secrets he
gladly shared.

I highly recommend Dick Gardner's material and if you want it, get there
soon! He can be reached at, HARMONICATS@xxxxxxxx
