There is a "Iron Wood " in the Southwest also ,(Ariz>). I am not sure
it is related to hornbeam although it is a scrub and an edge
killer. That being said has any one tried a comb from Mesquite ? My
favorite wood for color and bar b q, extremly hard and dense w/ red
swirls running though it and a smell close to Sandlewood. (IMHO)
