Re: [Harp-L] Working on groove

yup.

I used to call my class on this "The Church of the Sacred Hut-tah Hut-tah".

Simplified, it is learning to inhale holes 1 and 2 while sorta "saying" Hut-tah" and then exhaling holes 2 and 3 while also phoneticizing "Hut-tah".

The rhythm of Hut-tah is the shuffle rhythm, like reproducing the rhythm of your heartbeat.

4 beats/measure....inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale.

Hut-tah, Hut-tah, Hut-tah, Hut-tah

It is a low energy creation, like muttering under your breath. You can even go for a walk and practice Hut-tah's, each step equaling one beat of the measure.

Do this until it becomes a part of you. Play along with an entire recorded song and do nothing but attach this groove to the beat - no soloing or variation.

Even if you walk around without the harmonica, say it to yourself in your mind. Some find that they start walking with a certain groove to their body that catches the ladie's attention.

Once this is absorbed into your system, you can start to improvise over it and what you play will be attached to the groove.

Anybody got tips for really developing ones awareness and mastery of groove
during improvisation?
