I've used my ART a few times directly into the PA. The PA's I've used it on were by no means top of the line though. Usually, it requires cranking the MP's gain way up, its output down, the PA channel's gain way down, and then fiddling with the channel level and EQ until it sounds right.
My current gig rig is as follows....EV630 (XLR connection -> ART Tube MP Studio -> Danelectro Corned Beef Reverb -> Heumannized Kalamazoo Model Two -> lined out to Behringer DI100 with one -20db gain cut activated -> PA channel.
The Tube MP definitely helps beef up my tone by adding an extra tube-driven gain stage, and it gives me a volume control over my mic closely at hand. It's a cheap unit, but it works well, has handy things like the output limiter and gain booster, and the VU meter can help me gauge exactly how much output signal I'm sending through to the rig.

Anybody used an ART pre amp (or similar) to beef up the sound into a pa? A
lot of my local venues are too small to accommodate my Sonny Cruncher.
