Mike,
I use a shure 545S for chromatic, works for me in a blues context.  Gives more bottom end than a crystal, for one thing, which if you're using the low octave on a 16 hole is pretty cool.  I am guessing similar results with an SM 57. I currently use a bulletizer on the 545 and use it for diatonic playing too. Just easier than switching mics.
