[Harp-L] fake book index site

Here is the page for a list of fake books:
<http://www.seventhstring.com/>

It is also the page for Transcribe, a slow-down program that will allow you to import a song, slow it down to half speed without changing its key or if you want, it allows you to change the key from say a guitar friendly key (E=4 #s) to a harmonica friendly key like F, G or C.

At the left of the page is a list of topics. Fake Book Index is about half way down (or mid way up).

Simply type in the name of the song you are searching for and hit enter and you have a list of the fake books containing the tune.

This is handy if you have more than one fake book -- and eliminates the need to thumb through the index pages of every fake book you own.

Also, if you don't yet own a fake book (by far the most economical way to collect sheet music/chord changes) if you keep a list of the tunes you are frequently look for and the fake book that contains them, you're on your way to deciding which fake book to buy next.

And if you music reading scales are a bit rusty, you can do a search for harp layouts -- Lee Oskar and others offer them on the web.

Fake books have a single melody line and chord names. Some instrument specific fake books have chord grids for ukes and guitars and mandolins and banjos etc.

Still mystified by notation, pick up a copy of Phil Duncan's "Deluxe Harmonica Method by Mel Bay for about $10 that takes you up the 10 holes on a diatonic one note at a time and includes the biggest collection of tunes with harmonica tablature (arrows and numbers) on the market today.

(You can also use this book to make up your own tab from sheet music or lead sheets/fake book songs if you were absent the music teacher in your grade school cover Every Good Boy Does Fine for the 5 lines of the treble staff and F A C E for the spaces.)

Hope this helps,
Phil Lloyd
