Re: [Harp-L] iPad apps

Do yourself a favor and don't get locked into Apple without checking other
options, unless you are already an apple devotee. They are all about
locking you in and forcing you to do things their way and use their stuff
and doing everything through iTunes so they can monitor and control their
users. The fact that they once again chose to use some proprietary
connector instead of the universal and ubiquitous micro-USB is just one
example. The Samsung Galaxy S III is a far better phone spec-wise than
iPhone but yet people are all orgasmic and setting up tents days in advance
to buy it. If you've been around, you've seen countless times what happens
when a company gets that much control. Prices go up, and they are no longer
motivated so much about that quality thing.

Yeah, Apple has more apps (for now) but Android is moving fast and is open
and all about choice. If you don't like your Samsung or they piss you off,
you can go to HTC or one of many others. My girlfriend has iPhone, iPad and
Macbook Air and I have the Android stuff and I always check to see if
there's a huge difference. Usability-wise, I don't think so at all, despite
the hype. At least get to a Staples and have a look at the Samsung Galaxy
10" tab and Google Nexus 7" one (apple will cave finally and release a
smaller iPad by end of year, rumors say).

Harp content: There are plenty of harp-based apps for Android. I have a HTC
Incredible 2 Android phone, and a *fantastic* $200 Google Nexus 7 Android
tablet (7" instead of the bulky 10+" ones in case you want something more
portable) and run the same apps on both. There was a Japanese fellow who
was building a killer harp app (for both platforms I think) and posted
here, I wonder where he's at with that.

Well, to really answer your question, at least for harp-specific apps, go
to both app stores and search on harmonica or harp. That just leaves other
useful ones like tuners, effects, etc - but they do exist for both
platforms.

Just my opinion now, don't everyone go nuts on me. If you have Apple and
love it, good on you and enjoy. I just resent the lockin thing and more
about having choices. :^)
