Re: [Harp-L] Easy Third Tuning Examples

Thanks for posting the demo links Robert.

I've used this tuning on a few select harps for specific songs for accompanying an Irish vocalist I play with. Also on a couple of Rick Epping style "session harps", (sometimes referred to as "bunker busters" in some of the forums for their loud tone in live sessions). I've heard some lovely recordings of of Rick using it on both "Jiggin The Blues", and his work with "The Unwanted -(Music From the Atlantic Fringe)". Both worth checking out.

I've been wondering what to call this tuning, and now "Easy Third" it is! Wish I knew of it back when I used to sit in and play harp with a Reggae band back in Denver years ago.

I like that it gives you an (almost) solo tuned scale on the low octave (minus the 7th). This would be a good tuning for the XB 40 too for specific tune sets, and a nice compliment to Paddy tuning, to have on hand. Easy third position for sure!

I would also be interested in any background/ history on this tuning, if anyone else uses it, or other recordings or examples.

Best-
Burke T.

As far as I know, Rick Epping using Easy Third tuning for playing Irish
Traditional Music, sometimes it also called an Irish Tuning.
