I played with Chris once live on a gig (his gig i just sat in) He was playing all his fancy stuff and I
Just did all my tongue block blues stuff thinking I would sound different. After my solo he played back to me every lick I did (tongue blocking himself) and cut my head doing it. Then on the drive home he gently told me I needed to attack more on my solos. I will never forget that. Chris could be very abrasive but he never lied it was all truth. If he told you that you sucked. You probably did.
