Re: [Harp-L] Tongue locating, NOW Tongue POINTING
I say
"use any and all. whatever, however, tongue on, tongue off, tip of tongue here, pucker there/tongue down right side of mouth play"
whatever gets you around the harmonica is fair game.....however you wanna label it.
btw, for beginning students, I start them w/single note technique and after about 4 weeks introduce them to tongue on harmonica playing single notes on the right side - and ask that they go over all the exercises and/or little tunes we've covered with tongue down. Following this (usually 2 weeks later) we work on raising/lowering tongue to understand the single note/chord sound and also to start to approach tongue slapping sounds. The better students will be asked to start to explore tongue on harmonica playing single notes on the LEFT side a few weeks later.
Each student reacts to each new approach in their own fashion. In this way, we start to examine their strengths and weaknesses and also find out which technique seems to be drawing the student towards it.
As usual, after the basics, I approach each student individually in how I introduce new material/techniques.

Maybe it should be called tongue-pointing: The conscious use of the tip of
tongue to FEEL the hole before starting the air flow. Once found, the
tongue pulls away and pucker playing continues.
