"What changed was I figured out how to breath between beats by opening my
mouth wide and expelling air around the harmonica. You can also pull the
harmonica slightly away and expel air between beats. You don't empty your
lungs. There is no time. Get as much out as you can to make room for the
next breath."
welcome to the world of chord players! saber dance and orange blossom
specials are great examples of LONG periods of blow chord, living on little
sips of air between chugs. fantasy impromptu has a section of draw chord
for measure after measure, getting ya waaaaayyyyyy too full of air. so
ya dump just enough air between notes to make room for the next chord.
in the meantime, the CO2 sensor in your brain is going all wonky telling
you the end is near!
btw, THIS is the reason a chord player has to play from the diaphragm
rather than the chest. chest breathing isn't fast enough to do the job in
these cases.
i had to spend hours with a metronome learning to breathe around the chord
and not let my breathing affect the playing of the song. its a tough job,
and good on yer fer learning it!
