[Harp-L] bluegrass chop?

Brian

The bluegrass "chop" is not something you necessarily get right away.
It may take some practice. (Even mando players sometimes take a while
to get it.) Here are a couple of suggestions.

1-- Make sure you are making a "pop" sound very much like the sound
the mandolin makes. It will help you to listen to some bluegrass
recordings. Try to imitate the sound the mandolin makes. It is
basically a drum sound played on the 2/4 beats.

2--Go back your bluegrass jam and listen to the mandolin player. Try
to imitate exactly the sound he makes and, even more, the timing he
uses in his chops.

Be patient. LISTEN AND IMITATE. It is perfectly possible for the
harmonica player to chop in a bluegrass jam.
