I sit on the couch, drink some coffee and listen to Sonny Tery and Brownie
McGhee. I'm working on "Christine" right now. I play along with a little
Bonnie Raitt--trying to figure out how to play ballads, listen to some
Franz Lizst, some Lula Cotes, and try like heck to get that Sonny Boy
Williamson sound on Bring it on Home.
Mostly I'm aiming for a sound. My own sound. Experimenting with a vibrato
but using the hand for organ swells. Playing the instrument as in playing
around with the instrument to see what kind of sounds I can get and try to
keep all those habitual mistakes out of my repertoire.
