Re: [Harp-L] Good chromatics for a beginner

If you're looking for relatively inexpensive chromatics, you could go for the Hohner Discovery 48, Suzuki SCX-48, or Seydel Deluxe.
These are all solid 12-hole chromatics in C.

If you want to dip into the sub-$100 range, you could try one of the Swan models, which have been getting positive user reviews (I have no personal experience with them).

I would avoid valveless chromatics such as the Hohnica Educator and Seydel Standard. No valves = leaky.

For instruction you could start with my series on "Chromatic For Diatonic Players" at harmonicasessions.com, starting with the February 2005 issue:

Subject: [Harp-L] Good chromatics for a beginner

I've been playing a diatonic (a Hohner Blues Harp) for nearly a year, and
I'm looking to start learning to play chromatic. Are there any harmonicas
you'd recommend, and any good books to learn with?

Thanks,
Sam.
