Has anyone had in-tune harmonica reed plates chromed and if so, what was the outcome?
I can think of some benefits dealing with closing the gaps (chrome plating can be applied very thinly) to solving issues with allergies to brass. The only two negatives that come to mind would be the more or less permanent marrying of the reeds to the reed plate and if the reeds were chromed it would be difficult to retune them. I recall seeing somewhere a way to chrome small items at home, using batteries or a small power supply, and some chemical baths. Perhaps one could chrome just part of the reed plate, as required, and not chrome the reed attaching points?
